Aurora Man Arrested on Child Porn, Gun Charges

The man was charged after seven-month investigation by Naperville and Aurora police.

Naperville and Aurora police this week arrested a 37-year-old Aurora man accused of downloading and distributing hundreds of images and videos depicting child porn, police said Thursday.

In addition to the child porn charges, Niraj V. Patel, of the 3600 block of Gabrielle Lane, also faces a weapons charge after police executing a search warrant found a semi-automatic rifle, police said.

Naperville police said a search warrant was executed early Tuesday morning following a seven-month investigation. The search turned up photos and videos of children engaged in sexual conduct, police said.

Now an Aurora resident, Patel previously lived on the 1400 block of Fairway Drive in Naperville, police said. According to officials, Patel moved to the Aurora address during the seven-month investigation.

Patel was taken into custody on charges of three counts of dissemination of child pornography, one count of possession of child pornography and possession of a firearm without a FOID card, police said. He was transferred to the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, where he is being held on $500,000 bail.
