Aurora Offers Severe Weather Spotter Training

Anyone from fifth-grade on up can attend the free two-hour course on March 31 to learn how to recognize and identify severe storms.

The City of Aurora’s Emergency Management Agency is teaming with the National Weather Service to offer severe weather spotter training at 6:30 p.m., March 31 in City Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall, 44 E. Downer Place.

The two-hour course focuses on recognizing and identifying severe storms that would be capable of producing damaging winds, tornadoes, heavy rain, and hail. Other topics include reporting procedures to the appropriate agencies so that warnings can be issued to the public.

The program is ideal for public safety agencies and first responders as well as schools, amateur radio operators, long term care facilities, and industrial, corporate, and hospital safety personnel. The program is open to anyone from fifth grade up, who is interested in attending.
