Caller Impersonates Cop to Get Credit Card Number: Sheriff

Victim got a call from "Officer Neal Johnson" demanding money.

Kendall County Sheriff’s police are warning residents to be wary after a report of a scammer claiming to be an officer.

Police said a resident got a call Friday from someone purporting to be “Officer Neal Johnson” with the Kendall County Sheriff’s Department. The caller requested a credit card number or wire transfer to cover “outstanding charges,” saying failure to pay could result in arrest, police said.

The phone number listed on the resident’s caller ID was “spoofed,” meaning it displayed a fake phone number. The number that showed up on the caller ID was the main number for the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, (630) 553-7500, police said.
