Crimes Against Children on the Rise in Kendall County: State's Attorney

The total number of cases handled in Kendall County has dropped, but child abuse and neglect cases are up.

Juvenile abuse and neglect cases have been on the rise for the past four or five years in Kendall County, State’s Attorney Eric Weis told the county board.

Weis, who didn’t give a reason for the increase, said the number of child abuse and neglect cases doubled from 18 to 36 between 2013 and 2014, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Weis said the county is stepping up its efforts to deal with crimes against juveniles.

Cases involving juveniles have increased even as the total number of cases handled by the state’s attorney’s office have declined, according to Weis’ 2014 year-end report. The office handled 12,289 cases in 2014, compared with 13,559 in 2013 and 14,402 in 2012.
