DCFS Investigating Parents of Boy Who Died After Falling into Pond

There have been no previous reports against the family.

The parents of the 2-year-old boy who died Wednesday after being submerged in a retention pond are being investigated by child welfare officials on allegations of neglect.

The boy's siblings are staying with relatives under a Department of Children and Family Services safety plan, reports the Aurora Beacon News. There have been no previous reports to DCFS about the family.

Mohamed Qattum, of the 200 block of Fernwood Road in Montgomery, walked away from his mother and siblings and fell into the pond, which was partially covered in ice, in the 200 block of Fernwood Road.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s deputies responded a missing boy call shortly after noon on Monday. Rescue workers pulled the boy from the pond. He was pronounced dead Wednesday afternoon at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

Kendall County Sheriff's police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the boy's disappearance but said no foul play was suspected.
