District 308 Nurse: Help Stop the Spread of Illness During Flu Season
Some tips for staying healthy.

Submitted by Oswego School District:
The weather is changing, and the flu season is upon us.
With that in mind, School District 308 nurse Melanie Eilers would like to remind students, staff and parents that regularly practicing good health habits is the best way to prevent the spread of the flu and other illnesses.
“If everyone in the schools can take some simple precautions, we can drastically reduce the spread of germs and the instances of the flu and colds within our schools, and remain healthier on a whole,” Eilers said.
Washing your hands is one of the single most important things that you can do to prevent the spread of germs and bacteria, Eilers said.
Other tips for preventing the spread of illness in district schools:
· Cough or sneeze into a tissue whenever available. If a tissue is not available, cough and sneeze directly into your elbow. Avoid sneezing into your hands.
· Avoid close contact with people you know are already sick.
· Get plenty of sleep.
· Eat healthy foods—especially fruits and vegetables.
· Avoid touching your face in general.
· Manage your stress effectively.
· Get a flu shot.
· Use alcohol hand sanitizers whenever available.
· Keep your surroundings clean.
· Stay home from school or work if you are experiencing flu-like symptoms.
Flu symptoms include headache, fever and nausea.
