Homeless Man Accused of Slashing Tires

The man is believed to have damaged 17 vehicles in Aurora.

A homeless has been charged with felony criminal damage to property after slashing multiple tires, according to a release from the Aurora Police Department.

Ignacio Torres, 33, was found slashing tires on five different vehicles in less than a minute in a lot at 142 N. Lincoln Avenue the morning of July 30. Before his arrest, a sixth vehicle with similar damage was found in a lot at 204 Spring Street. The total estimated damage to the six vehicles was over $1,300.

Torres is also suspected of damaging 11 vehicles in a similar manner in the same lots of July 27 and July 29. The cost of damage in those incidents in near $2,700.

Due to his past contacts with police, Torres was quickly established as a suspect. Based on information gathered in the investigation, the Community Policing Unit set up an undercover detail on July 30 and apprehended Torres.

Torres is being held in lieu of $10,000 bond at 10 percent at the Kane County Correctional Center in St. Charles.
