Illinois Man Caught Shoplifting Assault Rifle Shot by Kentucky Cops: Police
Police said the Naperville man appeared to reach for the assault rifle while fleeing the scene of a Cabela's in Kentucky when he was shot.

A Kentucky police officer has been placed on administrative leave after shooting a 33-year-old Naperville man who is accused of stealing an assault rifle from a Cabela’s Saturday night, according to the Park City Daily News.
The Naperville resident, Elliott Cummings, was taken to a hospital in south-central Kentucky following the shooting, which occurred just before 8 p.m. on Saturday, and was then taken by helicopter to a hospital in Nashville, Tenn., for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, the Park City Daily News reports.

Cummings is accused of walking out of Cabela’s in Bowling Green, Kent., with an AR-15 assault rifle tucked in his pants. Police said when an officer arrived, Cummings fled and appeared to reach for the rifle when the officer shot him, according to the newspaper.
