Kifowit Delivers Over 800 Donated Books to Culture Stock
State Rep. Stephanie Kifowit

AURORA, Ill. – State Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, put a new spin on her annual Recycling and Shred Day by motivating individuals to donate books so they could be reused. On May 8, she donated 800 books collected from the community to Culture Stock.
“Every year this annual event grows, and this year we were successful in adding book donations so they can be reused in the community,” Kifowit said. “I was thrilled to see the amount of people donating. Reading is such a fundamental part of our lives, and these books will go towards continuing to promote literacy by supporting the downtown bookstore operated by Culture Stock.”
Kifowit collected over 800 books for the Aurora Culture Stock, including 157 children’s books. Culture Stock will resell them, with sales going to fund L.I.F.T. (Live. Improve. Flourish. Thrive) Aurora, a nonprofit organization focused on enhancing the area’s access to art, culture, and literacy. Culture Stock offers free music, book signings, and poetry readings. They are located at 43 E Galena Blvd in Aurora.

“Culture Stock can only be sustained by the generosity of those individuals who contribute to our 100% donated inventory at our bookstore and who give their time as part of our volunteer staff,” said Nicole Mullins, Board President of Culture Stock. “We opened our doors in October 2012 and thanks to the generosity of Representative Kifowit and so many members of our community, we look forward to many more years of providing accessibility to books, arts programming, and other events.”
