A 37-year-old woman who was a passenger on the motorcycle was seriously hurt.

A 28-year-old Plainfield man was killed Tuesday and a woman was seriously injured when their motorcycle was struck by a vehicle in Aurora, police said.

Aurora police said Jacob W. Hastert, of the 25000 block of Presidential Avenue, was riding with a female passenger at about 9:30 p.m. when his 2005 Yamaha was struck by vehicle at the intersection of Hill Avenue and Montgomery Road.

Police who responded to the crash found Hastert and the 37-year-old passenger, also a Plainfield resident, lying in the roadway.

According to police, a preliminary investigation indicates that Hastert was driving the motorcycle south on Hill Avenue at a high rate of speed when it was struck by a northbound Nissan Sentra that had turned left in front of the motorcycle.

Both Hastert and the woman were thrown from the motorcycle by the impact of the crash, police said. Neither was wearing a helmet.

Hastert suffered massive head injuries and was taken to an Aurora hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:58 p.m., police said. His passenger, who suffered apparent back and rib injuries, was also taken to an Aurora hospital and later transferred to a suburban Chicago hospital, police said. Her condition was not known on Wednesday morning.

The driver of the Nissan, 63-year-old Maria Ramos of Aurora, was ticketed for failure to yield while turning left, police said. She was taken to an Aurora hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. There were no other occupants in the Nissan, according to police.

Police said there were no signs of drug or alcohol use at the scene of the crash.
