Montgomery Man Sexually Assaulted 15-Year-Old: Sheriff

MONTGOMERY, IL — A Montgomery man in custody on an unrelated Kane County sex crime charge now faces accusations that he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old juvenile family member. The Kendall County Sheriff's Office said a warrant for the arrest of Shamar J. Johnson, 21, of Rocky Way, was issued Monday.

Police said the 15-year-old reported being sexually assaulted by an adult family member in January.

Johnson is currently in custody at the Kane County Corrections Center, charged with failure to register as a sex offender. Now he is charged with two counts of felony criminal sexual assault.

In June, U.S. marshals apprehended Johnson in the 600 block of River Street in Aurora. At that time, Johnson was considered a fugitive, wanted since May 3 on two active warrants for failure to register as a sex offender. He was previously arrested in Kendall County for failure to register on Dec. 7, 2017.

Kane County records show he has been in custody there since July 16 and is being held on $30,000 bail. The new warrant issued Monday in Kendall County carries a $100,000 bond.
