Valentine traditions are wide-ranging, but usually involve the exchange of some love token or small gift and a Valentine card. At one time, these tokens were hand-made.
During “Victorian Valentines,” participants, aged 3 years and up, will create their own home-made Valentines similar to ones made in the 1890s. Visitors invited to stop in any time between 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. either Saturday or Sunday for this free activity. Children must attend with an adult.
While at the museum, visitors are also invited to visit the annual seasonal “Be My Valentine: Greetings from Oswego’s Past” special exhibit in the community museum room featuring vintage Valentine cards and other related items from days gone by. The special exhibit will be available during regular museum hours throughout February.
Regular museum hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. The museum is a joint project of the Oswegoland Heritage Association and the Oswegoland Park District.
