One Dead in Plano Plane Crash: Report

Victim not identified Sunday night.

One person was killed Sunday in a plane crash near Plano, ABC 7 Chicago is reporting.

As of late Sunday, the victim had not been identified, nor had the cause of the crash.

Kendall County Scanner reported that Sandwich Fire Department crews were dispatched to the scene of the crash near Burr Oak Road and began a search. After about 90 minutes, the cabin of the plane was found, the page reported.

Little Rock-Fox Fire Protection District Chief Greg Witek said residents alerted authorities to a possible plane crash after hearing a loud engine noise over their home, followed by a boom and crashing noise.

Witek said crews began searching for crash debris and found the crash site after requesting a helicopter equipped with night vision. Debris and parts of the plane were found in standing corn along a creek near the Plano/Sandwich border, Witek said.

He said crews were able find a section of the plane containing the tail number, which has been relayed to the FAA.

Witek said he could confirm one fatality, but could not yet say if there were any other victims of the crash.

Responding agencies included Little Rock Fox Fire, Lisbon Seward, Big Rock, Somanauk, Newark, Oswego and the Kendall County Sheriff’s Department.
