Four Oswego schools were placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure after a home invasion Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Oswego Police Capt. Jeff Burgner said police responded to a report of a home invasion at 1:03 p.m. in the 400 block of Majestic Lane. Witnesses said a suspect, described as a black male with dreadlock-style hair and wearing shorts and a red shirt, had fled the home on foot.

As a precautionary measure, Oswego police put Oswego East High School, Plank Jr. High School, Churchill Elementary and Brokaw Early Learning Center on lockdown. Burgner said the lockdown was lifted at 1:56 p.m.

According to Burgner, police received information that the suspect might have been in a residence in the area. Police responded to the 300 block of McGrath, where they located a subject fitting the description of the suspect, police said.

Burgner said the suspect was taken into custody at 2:15 p.m. after identification was made, and that the scene is secure.

There are no reports of injuries to any of the occupants of the Majestic Lane home, Burgner said, adding that a report of shots fired in the incident was unfounded.

Burgner said that according to witness statements, a female who was in the home at the time of the incident saw the suspect with what she believed to be a handgun. When the man was taken into custody, he did not have a weapon, according to Burgner. However, a BB gun, which Burgner described as a “very lookalike”-type weapon, was found in the area near where the suspect was arrested, he said.

Police said there is no immediate threat to the public due to the incident. Burgner said police anticipate releasing additional information as the investigation progresses.
