Philharmonic Orchestra Presents Sing Along Messiah

Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus join forces with guest soloists and the community to present the 5th annual Sing Along Messiah.

On Sunday afternoon, December 6th at 3:00pm, the Fox Valley Philharmonic Chorus, Choirmaster John Douglas, and the Philharmonic Orchestra, Maestro Maryann Flock, will join forces with guest soloists and the community to sing together the choruses from Georg Frederic Handel’s Messiah and other holiday music. This 5th Annual “Sing-Along” Messiah concert will include the “Christmas Section” of Messiah and the famous “Hallelujah Chorus”. But this seasonal event is not only for the “do-it-yourself” audience. Everyone wishing to get into the Christmas spirit is welcome to come and listen to the glorious sounds of Christmas music.

Admission to the concert is free; however, in a tradition established by Handel’s 1742 premier performance for the Irish “debtor’s prison,” donations are welcome at the concert with proceeds benefitting LifeSpring Ministries of Aurora. The performance will take place at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 420 West Downer Place, Aurora (Parking located behind the church on Garfield Ave.). Audience attendees who are singing along can bring, borrow, or buy the Messiah choral part at the door ($10 per book or refundable deposit). After the concert, there will be a reception with light refreshments.

The Philharmonic Orchestra is an affiliate of the Fox Valley Academy of Music Performance. The Academy orchestras will also be performing Christmas favorites, Haydn’s “Surprise” Symphony No. 94 and other classical works at their Holiday Concert at 1:00 p.m. Both concerts are partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency. For more information on this and future events, visit the Fox Valley Philharmonic website at www.fvacademy.org, or call 630-476-9072.
