Safe Haven Dog Rescue Honors Our Veterans!

Special Adoption Event 11/8/14!

Safe Haven Dog Rescue is honoring veterans Saturday November 8th. We will be at the Petco in Geneva from 11am to 3pm.

For many veterans, stray dogs in Iraq and Afghanistan played a major role in reducing stress and providing companionship during overseas deployment. Few options exist to allow military personnel to bring these dogs back to the U.S. Research shows that companion animals have a positive impact on helping soldiers adjust to civilian life and yet the adoption fee often limits a family’s ability to adopt.

Honoring those who have served - November 7th - November 11th

Standard Adoption Fee $295

Paid by Anonymous Donor $200

Adoption Cost to Veteran $95

Adoption includes spay or neuter, up-to-date on shots, rabies vaccination, heart worm test, fecal test, deworming, current on flea and heart worm preventative, free vet visit at one of our participating vets, micro-chipping and 30 days of shelter care insurance.

Most adult dogs listed on our Petfinder page http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/IL805.html qualify for this program, there are a few exceptions due to temperament or ongoing health needs. You must have proof of military service and meet our standard adoption criteria.

Our Veterans program touches two lives; the soldier and the dog.Our dogs are rescued from high kill shelters in AL. TN, KY, Mo, and Illinois where they were strays living on the streets. They were pulled from death row and now have a second chance at life. These strays or abandoned dogs can help our veterans adjust back into civilian life, help their families cope while they are serving our country, reduce stress, and provide unconditional love.

We also offer the My Buddy Companion Dog Program for soldiers diagnosed with PTSD.

This program is funded for 10 adoptions.

Please email safehavendogs@yahoo.com for an adoption application and additonal details. Priority will be given to those veterans that have completed the application and had a phone interview. We must meet your entire family before an adoption will be approved.
