School District 308 Projected to Save Taxpayers Nearly $400,000 Over Four Years Through Rebates
Oswego schools adding new vendors into its P Card system.

Submitted by Oswego School District 308:
By adding additional vendors into the P Card system, Community Unit School District 308 is projected to save an accumulated $371,885 between fiscal year 2012 and fiscal year 2015.
The district’s credit card provider issues a rebate check that has grown from 1.17 percent of district spending in fiscal year 2012 to 1.33 percent of district spending in fiscal year 2015. The district’s P Card balance has tripled over that time, primarily from increasing the number of vendors in the system. This shift in how the district pays for necessary expenses led to steady growth in the rebate check.
“We are always looking for vendors to add into our P Card program,” Associate Superintendent Dr. Paul O’Malley said. “This allows the district to save taxpayer money while making routine purchases needed to run the district on a day-to-day level. This amounts to free money, and it is accomplished through strong financial foresight and responsibility.”
School District 308 is expected to see a $170,062 rebate for fiscal year 2015. It has earned an accumulated $201,823 between fiscal years 12 and 14. Adding the district’s $4.8-million food service contract to the P Card program attributed to the larger rebate.
