Senator Oberweis named to legislative Committees, appointed to Spokesperson position
Senator Jim Oberweis has been named to legislative committees and will continue serving as Republican spokesperson for the Labor Committee.
SPRINGFIELD – State Sen. Jim Oberweis (R-Sugar Grove) has been named to five Illinois Senate committees for the 99th General Assembly.
The 25th District Senator has also been asked to continue serving as Republican spokesperson for the Labor Committee.
“A spokesperson role on the Labor Committee allows me to guide the kind of legislation and policy decisions that will affect business and labor communities,” Oberweis said. “I have developed a good working relationship with Senator Gary Forby, the Committee’s Democrat spokesperson, and look forward to working with him on issues that will impact our state’s economy, jobs and trade.”

Oberweis will also serve as a member of the Appropriations II, Local Government, State Government and Veterans Affairs, and Transportation committees.
The Senate’s standing committees analyze legislation dealing with specific subject areas, such as education, agriculture and transportation. Committees screen legislation introduced by all members and usually, only those bills approved by a committee may be considered by the entire Senate.

The 25th District Senator has also been asked to continue serving on the Legislative Audit Commission, which is responsible for the oversight of the State Audit Program, review of the stewardship of public funds, and the monitoring action to correct weaknesses disclosed by the audits of state agencies. The Commission was involved in hearings about several controversial programs during the administration of former Gov. Pat Quinn, including the failed Neighborhood Recovery Initiative (NRI). A scathing audit of Quinn’s NRI released in February 2014 has so far given rise to federal and state investigations.
