• Firefighters rescue cat after house fire leaves family homeless in Mundelein (lakemchenryscanner.com) — A Mundelein family is temporarily homeless after a basement fire heavily damaged their Shadydell Avenue home Monday afternoon, though everyone escaped safely and firefighters rescued the family cat in good condition. Mundelein crews, aided by several neighboring departments, knocked down the blaze in about 20 minutes, and investigators are still working to determine the cause.
