1 Year After Naperville Murder, Family, City Seeks Answers
Matthew Lange, 37, was shot and killed in the parking lot of Scullen Middle School on Jan. 27, 2017.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A year after Matthew Lange was shot to death in the parking lot of Scullen Middle School in Naperville, his family and the community are still waiting for answers. Lange, a 37-year-old psychology professor and father from Oswego, was waiting to pick up his 4-year-old son when he was gunned down. Despite ongoing efforts by police and residents, Lange's killer has never been found.
Lange's death was the first murder in Naperville since January 2014. It marks the first unsolved murder in Naperville in more than 20 years, according to Daily Herald.
Since Lange's death, Naperville Crime Stoppers has offered a $5,000 reward for any information leading to his killer's arrest. In July, an anonymous group came forward to offer their own $50,000 reward.

Naperville Police told Daily Herald they are still diligently working on the case, which was deemed not to be a random act. Since Lange was murdered more than a year ago, though, the opportunity to gather any new evidence or interview reliable witnesses is compromised.
Lange was murdered on Jan. 27, 2017, as he sat in his Hyundai Elantra waiting for his son to get out of Polish school, which was held at Scullen Middle School. The Aurora native succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, the DuPage County Coroner ruled.
