NAPERVILLE, IL — Five women have been charged with burglary after they stole more than $3,000 in items from an Old Navy store in Naperville Monday, police say. Kionna Williams, 30, of West Chicago, Kaprice Johns, 27, of Evergreen Park, and Desire Jackson, 20, Savanna Grant, 20, and Jasmine Brown, 26, all of Chicago, have been charged with retail theft in addition to the burglary charges.

According to police, the women brought altered shopping bags into the store at 220 S. Rte. 59 in an attempt to thwart security. Just before 8:30 p.m., they filled the bags with items from the store and fled. Police say the total of the stolen items was $3,100.

Police in West Chicago pulled over the women and found "numerous bags full of stolen merchandise including clothing, party items and house decor," according to a press release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. All five women were taken into custody in West Chicago.

In a statement, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said, "With just days left in the holiday shopping season, it is alleged that these defendants went into the Old Navy store intent on stealing whatever they could get their hands on. Their alleged behavior is completely unacceptable and perhaps today’s charges will serve as a reminder to any would be offenders why the holiday season is often referred to as the shopping season and not the shoplifting season."

Police say the women are also linked to a number of thefts reported at the Fox Valley Mall. They are all due to appear in court again on Jan. 13.
