6 Months After EF-3 Tornado, Long-Term Needs Check-In Planned

NAPERVILLE, IL — December 20 marks the six-month anniversary of the EF-3 tornado damaged hundreds of homes in and around Naperville. Residents who are still dealing with long-term effects of the storm are encouraged to attend an open house Dec. 20 at Ranch View Elementary School to address ongoing needs that exist as a result of the tornado.

Volunteers will be on hand at the event from the Naperville Long-Term Recovery Group, which was organized by Naperville city officials, Loaves and Fishes and Ranch View Community Assistance to connect residents with resources to aid in tornado recovery.

At the open house, residents can complete an assessment survey to identify their needs. Those who cannot attend the event can fill out the assessment survey online. The deadline to complete the survey is Jan. 12.

“What our community went through on the night of June 20 was horrible; however, I am encouraged by so many volunteers coming together to better understand how families who were impacted may still be struggling,” Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico said in a news release.

Chirico continued,“I encourage anyone directly impacted by the storm to attend the open house or fill out the needs assessment survey online.”'

The June 20 tornado damaged over 230 homes in Naperville, reaching speeds of 140 mph and leveling one home in Naperville's Ranchview neighborhood.
