Accused Naperville Child Murderer Stands Trial

It was reported that she couldn't look at photos of the crime scene, which was described as of "unimaginable horror."

NAPERVILLE, IL — The Naperville woman accused of stabbing to death two children, including her son, had a difficult time looking at photos of the crime scene, the Naperville Sun reported, while in trial.

Elzbieta Plackowska, 45, is charged with two counts of first degree murder. Prosecutors say that in late October of 2012, Plackowska stabbed to death her son Justin, 7 and Olivia Dworakowski, 5, whom she was babysitting, while the girl's mother worked a night shift as a nurse. Also found at the gruesome crime scene were two dogs, stabbed to death.

Both children's throats had been slashed. Justin was stabbed about 100 times and Olivia was stabbed about 50 times. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in 2012 that the scene was of "unimaginable horror," Patch reported, and that the children pleaded for their lives. He said she also called her church and left a message saying she had "done something bad" and needed help.

Dr. Phillip Resnick, a forensic psychiatrist who has been involved in high-profile cases including serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh and Unabomber Ted Kaczynski, will serve as an expert for the defense, the Tribune reported. Plackowska's defense claims that she was insane at the time of the crime.

Plackowska's adult son said she was in a panic the night of the killings, and was covered in blood, the Naperville Sun reported. She reportedly told her older son that the children had been murdered by a man dressed in black who "looked like the devil."

Plackowska, a Polish national, came to the States about 12 years ago on a vacation visa, but never obtained citizenship.
