Interested in learning American Sign Language? ASL class registration is now open to students ages six through adult. Three different levels are being offered at a rate of $75 per six-week course; each ASL course runs on Thursdays from November 7 through December 19 (no class on Thanksgiving) at Community Christian Church Naperville Yellow Box. All classes will be taught by Naperville’s own Patti Phadke. Patti is Deaf and has taught ASL to hearing students at the college level for more than 12 years. She currently teaches at DePaul University and Columbia College.
ASL for children ages 6-12 runs from 5:30-6:25pm; ASL 1 for beginners ages 13+ runs from 6:30-7:25pm; and ASL 2 (for anyone who has previously taken at least one ASL class) for ages 13+ runs from 7:30-8:25pm. In ASL and ASL 1, students will learn at least 100 everyday vocabulary words, how to use expressions, basic ASL structure and the basics of Deaf culture. In ASL 2, students will learn more vocabulary, how to add more content to a conversation, and practice receptive skills with a Deaf instructor. All classes take place at Community Christian Church Naperville Yellow Box, 1635 Emerson Lane, Naperville.
Registration is $75 per course; checks should be mailed to Community Christian Church, Deaf Ministry, 1635 Emerson Lane, Naperville, IL 60540. Questions? Contact Meghan Vazzolo at 630-236-7129 or signingsocial@yahoo.com.
