NAPERVILLE, IL — Come 2027, Naperville residents won't have to drive to Bolingbrook to get their IKEA fix. The furniture chain recently announced plans to close their Bolingbrook location and open a small format store in Naperville.
"By moving the shopping experience to a small format store in Naperville, we are positioning IKEA closer to growing population centers and a popular shopping district while maintaining strong accessibility for existing Bolingbrook customers," IKEA officials said in a statement.
The Bolingbrook IKEA opened in 2005. At the time it was the second IKEA location in the Chicagoland area. The store spans 317,000 square feet at 750 E. Boughton Road, near The Promenade.
The Naperville IKEA will be located in the Block 59 retail plaza. According to reports, the new store will span 97,079 square feet.
And yes, it will have a Swedish Food Market and Deli, so there will be meatballs!
The future Naperville location won't be the Swedish furniture retailer's first smaller store in the Chicago area. In February, IKEA announced it will open a 66,000-square-foot store in Gurnee, saying it will be smaller than its Schaumburg and Bolingbrook locations.
