Amy Chavez Resigns From DuPage Co. Board Amid Out-Of-State Move
DuPage County Board Member Amy Chavez announced her resignation Tuesday, saying her family is moving for a job opportunity for her husband.
NAPERVILLE, IL — DuPage County Board Member Amy Chavez (D-Naperville) resigned her District 5 seat Tuesday, citing an upcoming move that will allow her husband to pursue a job opportunity out of state. Chavez's resignation will take effect after Aug. 16.
Chavez shared the news of her resignation via her Facebook page, where she mentioned that she and her husband wanted to arrange the timing of their move, so they would be settled in before their twins started the school year.
She wrote, "I am eternally grateful to the many people who supported my campaign; working for you has been a joy. Doing the work of the people in supporting economic development, sustainability, and COVID-19 recovery has been so rewarding. I am proud that I have fulfilled all my campaign promises and I am blessed that my time on the Board will be a small part of my legacy. Thank you for putting your trust in me."

On Wednesday, DuPage County Chairman released the following statement about Chavez's choice to resign:
“Today, DuPage County Board Member Amy Chavez informed me of her decision to resign from the County Board, effective August 16, 2022. As Economic Development Committee Chair, Member Chavez has been a strong advocate for the DuPage County business community. Her thoughtful approach and dedication to the residents of District 5 is to be commended. We thank Member Chavez for her service and wish her and her family well.”

Cronin will consult with board members before appointing another Democrat to fill Chavez's seat. Per board rules, a new appointment must be made within 60 days of the outgoing member's resignation.
