Car Catches Fire In Garage, Causes $800K In Damage To Naperville Home

Fire officials say the blaze spread so quickly it required an "extended firefight."

NAPERVILLE, IL — A fire that started in a car in the garage of a Naperville home Saturday caused over $800,000 in damage and left the house uninhabitable.

Firefighters were called to the 1100 block of Burke Court around 11 p.m. Saturday after a resident saw that their car had caught fire. There were six residents at home during the time of the blaze, all of whom got out safely before fire crews got to the scene.

The fire spread quickly into the main residence, according to a news release from the Naperville Fire Department, requiring an "extended firefight" with "significant smoke and heat conditions throughout."

It took more than an hour to control the blaze, with crews staying at the scene for another hour to address hot spots.

The fire's cause is currently under investigation.
