Carpentersville Man Dies In Aurora Crash Involving Semi

Aurora police say Carpentersville man may have gone through red light triggering crash with semi and third vehicle.

An 89-year-old Carpentersville man behind the wheel of a sedan was killed in a three-vehicle crash at an Aurora intersection on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased driver was identified as Carlos Villegas. His wife, Dorothy Villegas, 87, was a front seat passenger and sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Villegas was driving westbound on Diehl Road around 1:20 p.m., when it is believed he ran a red light at the intersection, according to a preliminary investigation. A semi-tractor was traveling northbound on Eola with the green light when both vehicles collided.

The semi-tractor pushed the sedan across the roadway when the semi crashed into a third vehicle that was waiting at the light to make a turn on to Diehl, police said.

Villegas was pronounced dead at an Aurora hospital. His wife remained hospitalized as of Tuesday night.

Police said the driver of the semi-tractor is an Aurora man who was the lone occupant in the vehilce. He refused medical treatment.

A 45-year-old Aurora woman was in the third vehicle. She, too, refused medical treatment.

The roadway remained closed for several hours. The accident is under investigation by the Aurora Police Department and Illinois State Police.
