Caylor Cries 'Libel,' Chirico Responds Ahead Of Election
Caylor accused a research firm hired by Chirico of releasing his social security number and spreading "false narratives" about him.

NAPERVILLE, IL -- Just a week before Naperville's municipal election, Rocky Caylor, who is challenging incumbent Mayor Steve Chirico, released an open letter to residents that accused a firm hired by Chirico of having released his personal information and spreading "false narratives." Caylor's letter again mentions the background check Chirico had conducted on him and goes on to address what he calls the "recently posted libel against him."
Caylor alleged that Stonebriar Research, LLC, which Chirico admitted to hiring to run background checks on both Caylor and himself, "called into question my military service, released my SS# to unauthorized persons and attempted to tie me to events I had no role in."
Caylor then referred to "National Enquirer-type stories on social media" in his letter. Patch reached out to Caylor's campaign office for clarification or links regarding the stories he mentioned, but did not immediately receive a response Thursday afternoon.

He said, "We should be talking about the budget, sales taxes, infrastructure, the proper scope of development, and how to once again bring the community together to grow and prosper."
Mayor Chirico told Patch via email, "Being the mayor of the 4th largest city in Illinois is an important job and the mayor is a reflection of the city. When a person runs for public office the voters deserve to know about the candidate's past."

He added, " Several residents have now brought to light issues about my opponent's past and instead of complaining about the source of the information, which is easily found by searching Google, [Caylor] should simply provide the answers."
