The spring event will honor outstanding service by Naperville Police Department personnel, via nominations from the community and fellow NPD employees. Additionally, the “George Pradel Award” will be bestowed upon the department employee whose performance not only exceeds the standard of service, but also epitomizes the heart and spirit of a public servant by going above and beyond in the delivery of service to the community.

Two special awards will also be presented: the Commissioner’s Award, which is an annual recognition by the Naperville Board of Fire and Police Commissioners, specifically to reward service through mentoring, volunteering, and serving as a role model. Also, the awarding of the 2016 Officer David White Scholarship will take place; this scholarship was established through the Naperville Park District in 2006 to encourage young people to pursue compassionate public service. The Scholarship honors NPD Officer David White, who, while on duty, helped save the life of a young person. Thanks to an additional donation to the Naperville Parks Foundation by Mayor Emeritus A. George Pradel from his remaining campaign funds, the 2016 Scholarship fund has been increased from $2,000 to $4,000.

The event’s proceedings will kick off with a stirring National Anthem, to be sung by the voice of the Chicago Wolves and Chicago favorite, Mr. Wayne Messmer!

CAPS is a group of Naperville community members, assembled to formally recognize and encourage the contributions to the City by public safety personnel; the Naperville Fire Department each fall and the Naperville Police Department each spring.
