On Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021, at approximately 7:36 p.m., the Naperville Police Department responded to the area of the 700 block of Genesee Drive to a report of shots fired on the basketball court. When officers arrived, the basketball court was clear of people, but a caller had given a description of the possible offender. An officer encountered a subject matching that description a short time later near North Aurora Road and Fairway Drive. That subject fled on foot and was not located after a search of the area by officers, including a K-9 unit. A shell casing was located at the basketball court, but there is no indication that anyone had been hurt. The preliminary investigation indicated that two subjects got into an altercation and one retrieved a firearm from a bag. He then fired the weapon, apparently missing the other party.
