Fast Facts: Another trip to Illinois State and the Class 4A state tournament is on the line when Neuqua Valley and Whitney Young meet in the Class 4A Hinsdale Central Super Sectional. This game is a familiar place for Whitney Young, appearing in its 11th straight Super Sectional. The Dolphins have won the past six of those appearances, winning state titles in 2008 and 2012. The Dolphins increased their winning streak to 14 with Thursday’s Hinsdale South Sectional title win over Trinity. The team is loaded with top-end talent, led by the 6-foot-5 Hillsman, who is committed to Texas A&M. Brame is also headed to Texas next year, to SMU in Dallas. The underclass stars are sure to be bound for Division I offers before it’s all said and done. Whitney Young coach Corry Carter has amassed an amazing 339 wins in her 13 years at Young. Neuqua won its first sectional title since 2002, hanging on for a 54-52 win over Oswego at the Joliet Central Sectional Thursday. Leading the way for the Wildcats is Lazar, who was the Upstate Eight Valley Player of the Year. The Wildcats swept the UEC Valley and beat Batavia for the overall Upstate Eight title before winning regional and sectional titles. The Smith sisters help fuel the Wildcats’ fast-paced defensive and offensive attacks. Menendez, who is 6-foot-2, will have her hands full defending one of the state’s best players in Hillsman.
