Cooking Fire Leaves Naperville Home Uninhabitable: Fire Dept.

Fire officials say two adults and a dog got out of the house safely.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A Naperville family was displaced from their home Sunday evening after a fire broke out in the kitchen of their home, according to a news release from Naperville Fire Department Bureau Chief Jim Kubinski. The fire was reported at 7:19 p.m. in the 1700 block of Brookdale Road, Kubinski said.

Kubinski wrote that two adults and a dog were safely outside of the home once fire crews got to the scene. By that time, the fire, which had been started by cooking oil on the stove, had spread throughout the kitchen, fire officials said.

According to Kubinski, it took firefighters 10 minutes to put the fire out on the first floor of the home. Crews spent additional time putting out the fire in the kitchen and clearing smoke from other areas throughout the home.
