District 204 Approves Air Conditioning for Elementary Schools

The Indian Prairie Unit District 204 approved a $309 million spending plan during a Monday night meeting.

District 204 elementary students looking to cool down on hot school days could soon have some relief.

The Indian Prairie Unit District 204 approved $2.5 million for partial air conditioning at 19 elementary schools in the district as part of its $309 spending plan, according to the Daily Herald. The spending plan approved during a Monday night meeting includes $3.5 million in other building improvements and $2.5 million for new technology.

This spending plan could change if the district loses a significant chunk of state funding, which could happen if Senate Bill 16 is approved, the Daily Herald reports. The bill aims to change the way education is funded and District 204 could lose over $10 million in revenue over the next four years if the bill is passed.
