District 300 Considers Options for Next Year's Late Start/Early Release Calendar

School officials plan to cut the number of early release/late start days from 15 to 10 and are considering other changes.

ALGONQUIN, IL - The District 300 Board of Education is considering new ways to handle its late start/early release calendar for the upcoming school year.

After parents complained of scheduling conflicts in regards to the district’s current model, which includes 15 early-release dates for elementary students and 15 late-start days for middle and high school students, Superintendent Fred Heid presented new options to the District 300 school board for late start/early release days for the upcoming school year, according to the Northwest Herald.

Two options that are now being considered reduces the number of late start/early release days from 15 to 10 and both would schedule the late start/early release on the same days for both primary and secondary schools, according to the article. Meanwhile, one of the options calls for late start days for middle and high school students and early release days for elementary students while the other option contends all grades should switch to early release days. The vote on the early release/late start changes is expected to take place in June, school officials said.
