Dog Dies, Family Displaced By Naperville Apartment Fire
A child and two adults were displaced due to damage to the three-story apartment building caused by a cooking fire.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Despite attempts to resuscitate the family pet, a dog died Thursday afternoon after an apartment fire in the 1500 block of Fairway Drive. Two adults and one child were able to escape the home without injury, but the home was uninhabitable as a result of the blaze, the Naperville Fire Department said.
Firefighters responded to a 911 call from a resident reporting heavy black smoke coming from a unit on the first floor of a three-story apartment building at around 2:51 p.m., according to fire officials. Crews arrived two minutes later and searched for any potential trapped victims in the building.
The fire was extinguished in about 20 minutes, and officials said three engine companies, two truck companies, one squad company and two ambulances responded to the scene.

The American Red Cross assisted on the scene and was able to assist with lodging for the family displaced by the fire.
Fire officials said the fire was an accident, caused by unattended cooking. No firefighters or civilians were hurt. Firefighters attempted to save the dog using oxygen and first aid, but the family pet perished, officials said.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Naperville Police Department, Naperville Electric Department, Naperville Transportation, Engineering, & Development (TED) Group, and Warrenville Fire Department. The Downers Grove, Winfield and Wheaton fire agencies provided station coverage during this incident.
