Dog Patch Pet And Feed To Close For Good In Naperville
"This is a profoundly sad day. It hurts to be here. We gave Dog Patch everything we had," owner Greg Gordon said in a social media post.

NAPERVILLE, IL — "The times, they are a-changing," Dog Patch Pet and Feed owner Greg Gordon wrote when he announced his beloved store would be closing after nearly 50 years in Naperville. Gordon made the announcement via social media Wednesday afternoon that Dog Patch Pet and Feed will close its doors for good Aug. 31.
"This has been a difficult stretch," Gordon wrote. "The bottom line is that we are not currently bringing in enough money to cover our expenses."
Gordon went on to thank the store's loyal customers and appeal to the public to hire his staff members. "You will never find a group of more dedicated people anywhere," he wrote.

In the coming weeks, Gordon and his staff will work to "move inventory" and find homes for its remaining animals, according to an update on the Dog Patch Pet and Feed website.
After Gordon announced the upcoming closure on Facebook, hundreds of people commented to share their disappointment at the news and celebrate fond memories they had of the pet supply and animal rescue store.

Of course the thread of comments was peppered with pictures of pets who found their homes after Dog Patch Pet and Feed took them in.
One fan shared, "This is one of the saddest things I've read. I'm so sorry to hear this, but thank you for all the joy and support you've brought to the community these 49 years."
One fan wrote, "This breaks my heart, as I'm sure it does yours."
Gordon himself seemed to echo that sentiment in his post. He wrote, "This is a profoundly sad day. It hurts to be here. We gave Dog Patch everything we had."
Dog Patch Pet and Feed did not immediately respond to Patch's request for comment Wednesday afternoon.
