DoodleBug Workshop in Wheaton Expands Its Classes for People with Disabilities in DuPage and Beyond Starting Oct. 5
DoodleBug Workshop, based at 314 S. Main Street in Wheaton, and serving people with disabilities ages 16-60+ in DuPage County and beyond, is expanding its classes, beginning October 5. Participants learn to use tools – both hand tools and power tools – to make beautiful and practical products for home and garden. Work also includes assembly and painting of the products which are sold at the Workshop.
Members of DuPage Woodworkers have joined the volunteer corps at DoodleBug Workshop. A new Wednesday class from 9:30-11:30am starting October 5, will meet weekly. For information, contact Sarah Starke at sarah@doodlebugworkshop.com. (note: there is not an 11:30-1:30 class as stated in a previous article)
Launched in 2017, DoodleBug Workshop was the brainchild of founder and executive director Sarah Starke. When her young adult son, who has an intellectual disability, finished the post high school transition program, Starke felt that there were not enough meaningful opportunities for him to learn new skills. She took it upon herself to provide a place where her son and others like him could learn to use tools safely and creatively, while building confidence, self-esteem and camaraderie.
