Drunken Driver Gets 10 Days in Jail for Hitting Naperville Police Car

When asked how much he had to drink, the former Aurora resident said "a lot."

A former Aurora resident who crashed into a Naperville police sergeant’s squad car was sentenced to 10 days in jail and began serving his time Sunday.

David J. Marzuki, of the 3200 block of North Pulaski Road in Chicago, and formerly of Aurora and Downers Grove, was found guilty of driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident involving an attended vehicle and operating a motor vehicle while using an electronic communication device, according to a report from the Chicago Tribune.

The sentence stems from an August 2014 incident.

According to police reports obtained by the Tribune, the sergeant said he saw Marzuki travel into his lane. The sergeant stopped his car and honked at Marzuki, but the man kept going and hit the left side bumper of the car.

Marzuki continued driving and stopped a block later where he got out of the car and began walking away, according to the article. The sergeant followed the man and told him to stop, which he did, saying that he’d been caught.

The man then began throwing his car keys, wallet and phone on the ground. When asked how much he had to drink, Marzuki reportedly said, “a lot.”
