DuPage River Floods, Naperville Riverwalk Lower Level Closed

The river is expected to rise above 20 feet by late Friday.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Incessant rains have cause the DuPage River to rise in several parts of Chicago's western suburbs, including along Naperville's Riverwalk. The river had risen to nearly 20 feet early Friday morning, causing officials to close some parts of Naperville's Riverwalk according to the National Weather Service.

Sue Omanson of the Naperville Park District told Patch that the lower level of the Riverwalk was closed due to flooding as of 12:27 p.m., according to Riverwalk Operations Manager Chuck Papanos.

According to the National Weather Service, the Riverwalk is expected to rise to 20.5 feet late Friday or early Saturday as a flood warning remained in effect until Saturday afternoon. The DuPage River reaches flood levels once it crests 19.5 feet.
