Edward Hospital names Law Enforcement Officer of the Year

Officer David Henzler of the Bolingbrook Police Department has been named the 2019 Edward Hospital Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. Officer Henzler was honored in a ceremony at Edward Hospital on Nov. 19.

Henzler, a 15-year veteran of the department, was nominated by his sergeant, Jeff Drabek. Henzler serves as a Field Training Officer, SWAT Assistant Team Leader and SWAT Medic. He is an active member of the National Guard and recipient of two Bronze Stars during deployment in the Middle East.

During the past year, Henzler has received department commendations for apprehending a barricaded subject who was threatening suicide, help and assistance provided to the community during an extended severe storm event, and assisting with the successful apprehension of a burglary and vehicle arson suspect. In October 2018, Henzler was awarded a Life Saving Medal after administering a Narcan dose to a 29-year-old male overdose victim.

The Officer of the Year Award is part of Edward-Elmhurst Health’s Law Enforcement Recognition Program, which supports the system’s partners in law enforcement in Naperville and surrounding communities.
