Edward Medical Group doctor: Make screenings routine in your healthcare

Dr. Nicholas Love is a board certified family medicine physician with Edward Medical Group at 1220 Hobson Rd. in Naperville.

Heart disease, cancer and many other diseases are more easily treatable if caught early. To do that, you need to be proactive.

“Most of all, staying informed about your health can give you peace of mind,” says Nicholas Love, DO, a board certified family medicine physician with Edward Medical Group. “If you’re aware of risks to your health, you can take control over at least some of the factors that affect it. And the earlier you start, the easier it is to develop healthy habits.”

Stay on schedule for regular check-ups and routine screenings, such as blood tests for diabetes and high cholesterol and, after a certain age, bone density scans and cancer screens such as mammograms, pap smears, skin cancer checks, and colonoscopies.

Ask your doctor if your family health history or other risk factors suggest you need a more aggressive schedule for some screenings than what’s normally recommended.

The process takes about five minutes for a single assessment. Questions cover lifestyle habits, family history and symptoms you may be having. You’ll promptly receive an outline of your overall risk, related health information and suggested action steps.

If you’re identified as being at a certain level of elevated risk you’ll be offered a free in-person clinical consultation with an Edward Hospital staff member. If you accept the offer, you’ll receive a more in-depth screening and guidance about next steps such as lifestyle changes and/or referral back to your personal physician or specialists for further testing.
