Ex-Naperville Firefighter Pleads Guilty To Sex Abuse Charges
Richard Herra, 50, of Elburn, pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse and indecent solicitation of a child via the internet.

NAPERVILLE, IL -- An ex-Naperville firefighter from Elburn has pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and indecent solicitation of a child via the internet for two separate cases from 2017. Richard Herra, 50, of the 400 block of East Reader Street, was released Tuesday as part of his plea agreement and must undergo four years of sex offender probation and register as a sex offender for life, Daily Herald reports.
Authorities say that in Sept. 2017, Herra met a minor under the age of 17 over the internet and arranged to meet them in person to engage in a sex act. The minor alerted police to the incident and Herra was taken into custody shortly after.
Herra was released on his own recognizance, according to Kane County State's Attorney's Office, but was later arrested and charged with six counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of indecent solicitation of a child in connection to a separate incident that took place in July 2017.
