Fire in Naperville Strip Mall Causes $15K in Damages

Source of blaze tied to commercial cooking appliance. Other businesses were not damaged, Naperville fire officials say.

Naperville firefighters quickly struck a fire that caused $15,000 in damages to a store on Friday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to a report of a fire in a strip mall in the 1900 block of 95th Street around 12:15 p.m., Naperville fire officials said in a news release.

Smoke was showing from the front of the business when firefighters arrived on the scene.

Once inside the business, firefighters reported a fire in one of the commercial cooking appliances.

The blaze was quickly brought under control and the rest of the premises were inspected to ensure that the fire did not reach into other areas of the building.

Firefighters reported that two fire suppression sprinkler heads activated and helped keep the fire in check until fire department companies arrived.

No one was injured by the fire and its cause is still under investigation. Damages to the store are estimated to be in excess of $15,000. The business will remain closed until repairs can be made. The adjacent businesses were not affected.

Three fire engines, two trucks, a heavy rescue squad, two medic units and two command vehicles were dispatched bring a total of 24 firefighters to the scene.

In addition to Naperville police and Naperville Transportation, Engineering and Development Department, the Will County Health Department was also notified.
