Floral Design Sale features spring and summer arrangements at Naper Settlement

Weed Ladies floral design sale features spring and summer arrangements at Naper Settlement March 19-22.

Experience a touch of long-awaited spring during the Weed Ladies Spring and Summer Floral Design Sale at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St. in Naperville. The historic Daniels House, which serves as the Weed Ladies’ showroom, is filled from floor to ceiling with colorful floral arrangements featuring bright flowers in vibrant hues that will delight winter-weary shoppers. The annual sale traditionally heralds the arrival of warmer weather and will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, March 19 through Saturday, March 21 and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 22. Admission to the sale is free.

“We’ll have arrangements in petite containers as well as those designed for large areas, such as foyers and fireplaces,” said Lynn Rogala, co-chair of the Weed Ladies. “Some of them will be whimsically arranged in containers with bunnies, birds and butterflies, while others are more formally done and are perfect for centerpieces.”

Combining the two seasons in one sale just makes sense in our area, said floral designer Nancy King.

“Our spring in Illinois is very short and our customers are anxious to transition from spring to summer,” she said. “Customers like natural containers of moss and vine, artisan baskets, antique brass, copper and verdigris containers, and rustic garden tools. Burlap and white birch bark are still very popular accents in our designs.”

Floral designer Sharon Wisinski said the design team is happy to take customers’ ideas and turn them into reality.

“Trends usually involve color and style and we do offer examples of current designs, but floral design has a timeless element,” she said. “When someone has a specific idea, color, flower or size in mind, we can create a custom design.”

The Weed Ladies have three sales during the year — spring/summer, fall and winter — and because Naper Settlement is a gathering place for the community, they also sell during several events, such as Civil War Days in May and the Naperville Woman’s Club Fine Art Fair in July. Last year, many visitors dropped in after taking their children or grandchildren to the new Harvard Early Learning Playscape when the workshop is usually open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays from April through October.

The Weed Ladies volunteers include 15 floral designers and gardeners. One of their busiest seasons is just around the corner – that of planting and caring for the garden just steps away from the Daniels House. Additional gardening volunteers are especially welcome.
