Follow the Green Money Dot: Man Conned Out of $12,000 in Phone Scam
Fraudster told Naperville man he was with the "Crime Investigation Department" and had warrant for his arrest, police say.

A 43-year-old, Naperville man is out $12,000 after being taken in by a phone scam, reports said.
According to the report, the man received a call from someone around 9:30 a.m. Sept. 15, identifying himself as an agent with the “Crime Investigation Department,” Naperville police said.
According to the report, the caller told the man that a warrant had been issued for his arrest for tax problems that could be resolved by sending them money.

The man did not know this was a scam and went out and purchased $12,000 worth of Green Dot Money Cards.
Police said he gave the numbers on the cards to the caller over the telephone.

“Some people will follow through and give the caller the information,” said Sgt. Bill Davis, of the Naperville Police Department. “The complainant did not know this to be a scam.”
