Police To Lead Burglary Prevention Forums In Naperville

Naperville Police will hold two forums to discuss burglary prevention in March.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville police say forced-entry burglaries have shown a sharp increase in 2018, making up 55% of the reported burglaries in the city in January and February. The police force is making burglaries its focus for "A Safer Naper" in March and has planned two public forums to address residents' concerns and provide tips and information on burglary prevention.

According to police, 22 homes were burglarized in Naperville in 2018 so far. This rate is currently outpacing annual burglary statistics for 2017. In 2017, 83 burglaries were reported in Naperville. Of these, 41% involved forced entry.

To help curb residential burglaries, Naperville Police have increased patrols and added officers in plain clothing to patrol some areas.

Naperville Police have planned two forums to cover the topic of burglary prevention. The first forum will be held on March 19 at 1 p.m. at the 95th Street Library. The second forum is planned for March 28th at 6:30 p.m. at the Naperville Municipal Center.

Despite the increase in forced-entry burglaries, Naperville is still trending much lower than its benchmark cities, which had more than three times as many burglaries on average from 2015 through 2017.
