Gas Station Robber Tussles With Police In Naperville: Cops

The suspect is accused of resisting arrest after stealing cash from a Mobile gas station.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A Montgomery man is in custody after he allegedly robbed a gas station and tried to fight off cops who were arresting him in Naperville late Wednesday. Police say Jeffrey S. Vonderheydt, 49, stole cash from the register at the Mobil gas station in the 1200 block of W. Ogden before fleeing on foot.

Police then caught up to Vonderheydt and tried to take him into custody, but he allegedly resisted arrest, injuring himself and a police officer in the process. The suspect and the officer were treated at a local hospital for minor injuries sustained in the struggle.

Vonderheydt has been charged with felony counts of robbery, aggravated resisting of a peace officer, and aggravated battery of a peace officer.
