Hospital Visits Restricted At Edward Amid COVID-19 Surge

Edward Hospital is limiting visitors to the facility, except for visitors to select patient specific populations.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Visitor restrictions are back in effect at Edward Hospital as coronavirus cases surge to record numbers throughout Illinois. Hospital visitors will not be permitted, except for those visiting patient-specific populations, according to an update from Edward-Elmhurst Health.

Adult patients who have appointments or who are visiting any of Edward-Elmhurst Health's emergency departments, immediate care centers, ambulatory care centers or physician's offices must enter those facilities along. Companions or care partners who come with must stay in their vehicles. Exceptions will be considered for approved care partners.

Visitors will be permitted in the following cases:

  • Minor outpatients (under 18) with appointments or at immediate care centers or emergency departments may be accompanied by one parent or legal guardian.
  • Pediatric inpatients and inpatients under 18 may have two parents or legal guardians present.
  • Visits to the intensive care unit will not be allowed, except under end-of-life or extenuating circumstances, to be determined by staff
  • Maternity patients may have one care partner onsite. If the mother is diagnosed with coronavirus or awaiting results, the care partner must remain in the room throughout their visit.
  • Care partners may accompany patients if limitations require their presence; such exceptions will be handled by the leader of each department.

Approved care partners who can visit due to extenuating circumstances must meet the following criteria:

  • Pass visitor screening on entry
  • No active coronavirus infection
  • No coronavirus exposure in past 14 days
  • Wear mask covering nose and mouth at all times
  • Practice social distancing and handwashing
  • Stay in patient's room at all times
