Hot Charcoal To Blame For Dumpster Fire In Naperville
The dumpster fire forced residents to temporarily evacuate from a three-story apartment building.
NAPERVILLE, IL — The Naperville Fire Department says hot charcoal is to blame for a large dumpster fire that broke out on Fourth of July. The fire was reported as coming from the parking lot of a three-story apartment building in the 1600 block of Kiowa Drive around 6 p.m., according to fire officials.
When firefighters got to the scene, the smoke from the dumpster fire was "extending to the living units above the fire," Bureau Chief James Kubinski said in a press release. As a result, residents were evacuated from the 12-unit apartment building.
Fire crews from Warrenville and Plainfield Fire Protection Districts also provided assistance with extinguishing the blaze. The official cause of the fire was determined to be charcoal that had been "improperly discarded" inside the dumpster.
